As we come closer to the end of the school year, it's time to talk about the things we've got going on between now and summer break. First of all, huge congratulations to the High School Band! On April 6 we took a brass ensemble, woodwind ensemble, percussion ensemble, and trumpet solo to Miami for the NEO Music Festival. All three ensembles and our trumpet soloist, Kaylee Rolph, earned superior ratings with their performances!
Now there are just a few things to keep in mind over the next few weeks:
Beginning Band Percussion Auditions
Any first-year band students in Dewey who are interested in switching to percussion for next year are invited to attend tryouts for percussion after school. This will take place over 4 afternoons, from 3:30-4:00 PM on the following dates:
Tuesday, April 12 Tuesday, April 19
Thursday, April 14 Thursday, April 21
A handout was sent home with each student on Thursday, April 7, with all this information. Please contact Mr. McKinney with any questions or concerns.
Spring Band Concert
All four Dewey bands will be performing in our 2016 Spring Band Concert, featuring a Broadway-themed program with the HS Band and a mainly Disney concert from the Middle School Band! The concert will be on Thursday, May 12, 2016, at 6:30 PM in the auditorium. The Beginning Band will perform first, followed by the Middle School Band, HS Jazz Band, and HS Concert Band. This concert will also feature the 2016 Dewey Band Coronation. Please stop by that evening for a great night of music with the Dewey band program!
High School Graduation
The Dewey HS Commencement will take place on Friday, May 20, 2016. Band members grades 7-11 will likely be performing for the ceremony. Call time will be announced closer to the date, but the ceremony will begin at 8:00pm at the stadium. This will be the final exam grade for the Middle School Band.
It's been a great year so far - let's finish strong with these last few performance opportunities to conclude the 2015-2016 school year!
