Beginning Band
BEGINNING BAND EXPECTATIONS
ALL 6th grade band students are REQURIED to:
- Attend each class with all materials including but limited to:
- Clean, functioning instrument, binder with inserts and music, method book (Standard of Excellence Book 1), pencil, chromebook (when required in class), all accessories including cleaning materials, valve oil, and extra reeds (Vandoren 2 or 2.5)
- Complete all weekly written and performance assignments such as Practice Journals and Playing Tests assigned on their Music First accounts.
- Perform in 1 concert each semester
- Regularly take instrument home to practice
- Regularly care for instrument, and communicate any needed repairs immediately with the band director (see Useful Websites and Forms)
- Participate in annually scheduled fundraisers
- Take private lesson instruction (See Practice Help)
- Participate in MEOBDA district honor band (selections via letter Spring Semester)
Grading Policy & Communication
- Daily Work (80%): This includes all day to day participation grades (on time, with materials), Music First playing assignments and practice logs, and each semester's concert performance (exam grade).
- Semester Test (20%): Per district policy, each course will conclude the semester with Final Exam, worth 20% of the overall semester grade. The nature of each semester's final for this course will be determined by the Band Director.

Watch the video here for demonstrations of instruments you may be able to play in band!! Beginning band instruments will consist of bell and snare percussion, flutes, clarinets, alto saxophones, trumpets, trombones, and baritones.
