Dewey High School
Marching Band
The Dewey High School "Big Red Pride" Marching Band is an outdoor performance ensemble made up of all band students in grades 8-12. We have a great time during the fall semester performing at all football games, both on the field and in the stands, as well as at area marching band competitions. The marching band meets at the beginning of every school day, once per week after school, and for two weeks of camp prior to the start of school with a week of special instruction and training for our student leaders, drum line, and color guard.
The High School Band also plays as a pep band at several home basketball games during the winter. Pep Band gives students the opportunity to experience a fast-paced, exciting athletic band environment as we support our Bulldogger basketball teams!

Concert Band
After the competitive marching season is finished, the students transition into the concert band, where they prepare programs of the highest possible quality and develop to new levels of musicianship through the performance of sophisticated wind band literature. The high school concert band performs multiple times during the year, including one winter concert and two spring concerts. In addition to these, the concert band performs in the spring at the OSSAA concert band festival, where they receive feedback from widely-recognized adjudicators in both their on-stage performance and sight reading.
Dewey Middle School
Beginning Band
Students at Dewey Public Schools have the opportunity to begin studying an instrument in 6th grade, and everyone is welcome! In Beginning Band, students study one of seven instruments - flute, clarinet, alto saxophone, trumpet, trombone, baritone, or bell percussion - with the advisement of the band director. Once the students are placed on their instruments, the fun begins! First-year band students will work on the fundamentals of rehearsal procedure, basic tone production, posture, and reading basic rhythms and musical notation. Beginning band students will showcase their newly acquired knowledge in both a winter and spring concert. For more information about our Beginning Band program, please contact Mr. Tilus!
Intermediate Band
Comprised of second-year band students, the Intermediate Band gives students the opportunity to delve into a higher level of music making as they continue to develop on their chosen instruments. Select students will also have the opportunity to learn "color" instruments such as tenor saxophone, french horn, and tuba, to create a broader instrumentation for the band in preparation for their high school experience.
