Yesterday (Monday, Jan. 16), we took students down to Cleveland High School to audition for the Mid-East OK Band Directors Association (MEOBDA) honor bands. Students had been preparing this music for over a month, and we're very proud of all their hard work. At the end of the day, we had seven of our Dewey band students make the honor band rosters in some capacity. Congratulations to the following students (listed in alphabetical order):
Brittany Anderson - 1st Chair Trumpet, HS Band
Joseph Gaither - 4th Chair Percussion, JH Band
Traey Garrison - 2nd Alternate Euphonium, JH Band
Emma Lewis - 1st Alternate Clarinet, 7th Grade Band
Sarah Newland - 7th Chair Trumpet, 7th Grade Band
Kaylee Rolph - 10th Chair Trumpet, HS Band
Destry Roye - 1st Alternate Bari Sax, JH Band
The students who received a folder with honor band music yesterday will be traveling to Oologah High School at the end of the month for the MEOBDA Honor Band Clinic, where they will spend 2 days working with fantastic guest conductors, ending in a concert on the second evening. The clinic will be on January 30 - 31 (Monday and Tuesday). A full itinerary will be handed out in class the week before the event, and a schedule for the two days can be found at www.meobda.org. Please contact Mr. McKinney with any questions and/or concerns about this event.
I'm proud of ALL of our band students that auditioned for the honor bands yesterday at Cleveland, and again - congratulations to those seven students listed above - keep up the great work!
